Are you ready to outsource?
Before you build a team in Vietnam, there are ten things worth having in place. Work through them honestly. Where one is missing, the note tells you how to sort it. Nothing here is a pass or fail — most businesses start with a few gaps and close them in the first month.
-
Documented SOPs for the role
Someone offshore can't absorb your process by sitting near you. Write down how the work is done, step by step, before they start.
-
Work that can be done remotely
If the role needs physical presence, it won't translate. The work should run on a computer and a phone, from anywhere.
-
Cloud-based tools your team already uses
If your systems live on a local server or in one person's head, move them somewhere a remote hire can log into first.
-
A clear day-to-day manager on your side
One person who sets priorities and answers questions. We handle HR, payroll and facilities — the work itself needs an owner at your end.
-
A definition of "good" for the first 90 days
What should they have delivered by day 30, 60, 90? If you can't say it, neither can they.
-
Steady, full-time workload
A dedicated hire needs enough consistent work to fill the week. Feast-and-famine is a poor fit for a full-time offshore role.
-
A realistic budget, not just a salary line
The monthly rate covers salary, equipment, office and support. Budget for the whole cost of the hire, not a headline number.
-
The ability to onboard in writing and on video
Your new hire won't sit beside you. If your onboarding is all in-person and ad hoc, it needs to become something you can hand over.
-
Work that tolerates a handover
If one person being away for a day stops the business, fix that single point of failure before you add distance to it.
-
Openness to shifting schedules for overlap
Vietnam is 3 hours behind Sydney and Melbourne, giving 6-7 hours of shared day. Some schedule flexibility widens that window.
Most teams we work with had four or five of these on day one. The rest get built during onboarding — which is exactly what the 30-day checklist is for.
